The fundamental role of the school nurse is to improve children and young people’s health and wellbeing by:
- leading, delivering and evaluating preventative services and universal public health programmes (as set out in the Healthy Child Programme 5-19) for school-aged children and young people, within both school and community settings
- delivering evidence-based approaches and cost effective programmes or interventions that contribute to children and young people’s health and well-being (e.g. reduction in childhood obesity, reduction in under 18 conception rates, reduction in prevalence of chlamydia and management of mental health disorders (such as depression and conduct disorder); co-ordinating services, referring to other agencies and delegating within the team to maximise resources and utilise the expertise of other skilled professionals)
- supporting a seamless transition into school, from primary to secondary school and transition into adulthood
- managing the interaction between health and education so that the child or young person enjoys good health and well-being (including emotional health and wellbeing) therefore achieving optimal education
- leading support for children and young people who have complex and/or additional needs including providing or co-ordinating support, education and training for families, carers and school staff
- identifying children and young people in need of early help and where appropriate providing support to improve their life chances and prevent abuse and neglect. This includes working with children and young people at risk of becoming involved in gangs or youth violence
- contributing as part of a multi-agency team, to the response for children, young people and families who have multiple problems.
Child health service
The School Health team is an excellent first point of contact for school aged children, young people and their parents who need health advice or information. They have a good knowledge of other statutory agencies and voluntary organisations that can offer advice and support related to health issues.

COVID UPDATE: TRAINING WILL RESTART ON AUGUST 22ND FOR ALL MEMBERS.
training will restart this Saturday, 22nd August for all members at the new time of 1-4pm at Valley BPL.
As we will be restricted on numbers for the timebeing we need places to be booked in advance in order to comply with track and trace requirements, preferably on Spond, but until everyone has access to the app we will also allow bookings via Facebook Messenger to our Worksop Falcons page.
The new measures we will implement, which are in line with Badminton England guidance are as follows :
- use of hand sanitiser on every entry to / exit from the sports hall and at regular intervals between play
- 2m gaps between seats (no benches) spread throughout the hall rather than condensed to one side
- group sizes of no more than 6 per court which will not change throughout the session (max of 24 players per training session)
- each group will be allocated a number of shuttles which they will not share with other groups and they will be cleaned regularly
- a new one way system (clearly marked) to move around the sports hall, and desk position for sign in, will be in place
- no handshakes after play finishes (other "etiquette" options will be enforced to show respect for other players)
- outer doors will be opened regularly for natural ventilation
- the changing rooms and access to the school will be locked and toilet facilities we can use will now be in the main sports centre and are being monitored and cleaned regularly.
The cost of the sessions and payment process will remain unchanged for now. When lockdown meant we had to close in March we had two sessions remaining of that month and we will restart with two sessions remaining in August, so there will be no further charge for these sessions (assuming the March payment wasn't outstanding). Therefore the first payment will be due on the first weekend of September.
Those who already have access to Spond will be sent an automatic message later this evening to book a place. If anyone else needs access to Spond please let us know and we can send a download link.

After more than four months in lockdown, I am sure you are looking forward to the gradual easing of the restrictions that have dominated our lives since the end of March. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 most of the TSD official events of 2020 have to be cancelled.
But as we slowly move into or new ‘normal’, it is increasingly clear that coronavirus will still be part of our lives for months to come. We know from speaking to our instructors and members that many of you are concerned about the long-term effects of the pandemic on your family wellbeing, finances, the health of your relatives and the state of the economy.
We will prioritise safety and hygiene in class when we resume training, hopefully in September. Changing facilities remain closed. Please make sure you/your child arrives already in their Tang Soo Do uniform. To maintain social distancing, coaches will no longer be applying tape to earrings that have not been taped over by parents/guardians. If you/your child are not dressed appropriately, they will not be allowed to participate.
In order to protect all coachers, participants and their families, we have the right to refuse entrance to any child and/or member if they are showing signs and symptoms of COVID-19. This includes a high temperature, continuous cough and a loss/change in sense of small or taste.
Both the UKTSDF and the government do not recommend the use of masks.face coverings during sports activities. All forms of face coverings may restrict breathing efficiency and should not be used during exercise except on specific advice from a physician. Tang Soo Do students can wear face masks before and after training if they so wish but masks should not be worn. whilst performing any form of TSD elements, including warm-ups/cool-downs.
Finally, as we emerge from lockdown, I want to take a moment to recognise the selfless work of the NHS and other key workers, who have done so much to keep us all safe.
The martial art of Tang Soo Do is relatively modern. However, its basis, the Korean art of Soo Bahk Do, dates back many centuries.
Tang Soo Do is both a hard and soft style, deriving its hardness in part from Soo Bahk and its soft flowing movements from the northern Chinese system
Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan (a brotherhood and school of stopping inner and outer conflict and developing virtue according to the way of the worthy hand) is not a sport. Though it is not essentially competitive, it has great combat applications. It is a classical martial art, and its purpose is to develop every aspect of the self, in order to create a mature personality who totally integrates his intellect, body, emotions, and spirit. This total integration helps to create a person who is free from inner conflict and who can deal with the outside world in a mature, intelligent, forthright, and virtuous manner.

- If you collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription, saving time.
- You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop.
- You may not have to wait as long as your repeat prescriptions could be prepared before you arrive.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s Public Health have commissioned a new and exciting website ‘Health for Kids’ which will be managed by the Youth Service. The website is due to be launched in January 2019.
Health for Kids is a health promotion website offering information in a fun and interactive way for primary school children, parents/carers and teachers. The website will offer local news on upcoming events, campaigns, blogs, articles and useful information about services available to children within Nottinghamshire. The website aims to help promote the health and wellbeing of children aged 5-11 years.
Moving forward, the Youth Service will also be managing the Health for Teens Website, which was launched back in January 2016. Health for Teens offers health and wellbeing advice and information to young people aged 11-19, promoting a healthy body and mind. The site provides local information on relevant services to signpost young people to within Nottinghamshire.
As a service we would like to inform you of how to contact us in regards to supporting the websites to ensure the information we include on the local pages is up to date and relevant for Nottinghamshire. For example, if you have an event you would like us to promote to children, young people, parents or carer, or if you have a campaign that is running locally we can publicise these on the Health for kids or Teens Website’s.
We would also like to request you to promote the relevant website to the appropriate age group through your service. We have a range of publicity material available electronically and a limited supply of hard copies.

At Girlguiding Nottinghamshire, we help girls reach their full potential...
With more than 9000 members, Girlguiding Nottinghamshire gives girls and young women space where they can grow, develop, build brilliant friendships, and make a positive difference to their lives and their communities. We may have been going for a long time but we continue to give girls and young women, of all backgrounds and faiths, an opportunity to make their voices heard so that they can realise their full potential to become dynamic members of the 21st century.
Whatever your daughters interests, whatever age - Girlguiding Nottinghamshire gives the chance to discover their full potential, give back to the local community, gain practical life skills and have fun with friendships that are built to last.
We are an inclusive organisation and will help any member to get the most out of their time with us. Guiding welcomes girls and adults with disabilities and its varied programme is flexible to allow most girls to participate. Every member of guiding makes a promise to do their best. If a girl or leader is willing to commit to the Promise – then they can become a member of Girlguiding UK.
Do come and join us if you have learning or physical special needs that limit your activities but not your hopes and achievements. Everyone is included and everyone does their best.
Everyone has their strengths and we aim to work with the abilities a person has and offer help if they need it. In guiding we encourage the girls to learn social skills, work together, be tolerant and respect diversity whilst carrying out the most important part of our philosophy – having fun! A girl with disabilities should be able to take as full a part as possible in her unit's activities. At the same time, the other girls’ requirements are taken into account so that the experience is a positive one for everyone.
We will do our best to find you a place in a local unit if possible but it would be helpful if parents discuss their daughter’s needs with the unit leader before she joins so that advice can be taken from the guiding Adviser for Members with Disabilities.
Our shop and the ground floor at Nottinghamshire Guide Head Quarters are wheelchair accessible, as are our camp and holiday premises.
The shop is open: Weds and Thurs 3pm-7pm and Sat 10am-2pm.

COVID-19
Updated 12/08/2020. Dogs are now allowed. Members of RMYC are joining us at the club, see b12. See also 4. clinically extremely vulnerable people. A reminder to everybody that despite and because of the easing of the lockdown measures the number of infected people in the community has not gone down at all in the last 6 weeks. This means that the risk of transmission whilst at the club is still the same as it was when we first started sailing again. Please keep on following to rules as strictly as possible.
This guidance needs to be reviewed at least once a week. If any members have any safety concerns/suggestions they shall contact the Covid safety officer or a committee member. For latest updates/changes see last part of this guidance.
At all times current government guidelines must be observed. All normal WSC rules to be observed unless changed in this guidance.
The Covid-19 virus is unlike any other flu virus. It is more virulent, it is more contagious and there was no natural immunity at the start of the outbreak, nor is there a vaccine available. This is why it’s so deadly. The Covid-19 pandemic is to stay with us for the whole 2020 sailing season.
Although WSC will do everything possible to facilitate safe sailing, safety at the club is the responsibility of every individual member.
I’ve made the following assumptions:
- All surfaces in and around the club including our own cars are potentially contaminated.
- At all times 2 metres distance rule to be adhered to.
- Only single-handed boat use is safe except for members of same household.
- Launching/retrieving of rescue boat has potential for transmission.
- Use of clubhouse or other buildings has potential for transmission.
- Opening/closing of gates/use of keypad has potential for transmission.
- The virus is unlikely to survive for longer than 72 hours on any surface. We therefore only sail on Sundays and Wednesdays and we don’t sail on Saturdays.
- Rescue operations have to be restricted to absolute minimum, therefore no sailing when wind speed is likely to exceed 15mph.
What all club members need to do.
- Have stylus/pen or similar in car to use on keypad. Have kitchen roll or similar to touch latches/gate surfaces. Use hand sanitizer when leaving your car when arriving at the club and before getting into your car again when leaving the club
2 . Wear face mask or similar face covering whilst at the club.
- Have disposable gloves in the car to be used for one off tasks, see C. first person to arrive at the club.
- Put on your sailing clothes at home so that you don’t have to use the changing rooms.
- All members to stay at home if feeling unwell and or 37.8 or above. Also to stay at home if new continuous cough or 3 or more coughing bouts in 24hr period.
Travelling to the club.
- Press keypad buttons with stylus/pen or similar device and leave in the car.
- Open both wooden gates by using kitchen roll tissue or similar so that your skin doesn’t touch gate latches/top of the gates.
- After leaving the car immediately use hand sanitizer. Also after returning to your car to pick up equipment etc..
- Members from different households are not allowed to travel to and from the club in the same car.
Whilst at the club.
- Avoid any unnecessary touching of any surface whilst at the club. This includes avoiding helping other members with lawnmowers, their boats and other equipment.
- Bring and use your own (foldable) chairs.
- If we have to use the clubhouse because of rain etc. only use 1 chair for the whole time that you spend at the club and maintain 2m distance from other members.
- All members to avoid using toilet facilities by using toilet at home just before travelling to the club. If toilet has to be used at the club use hand sanitizer before entering and after leaving toilet facilities as well as washing your hands with soap and water. Paper towels are available. If you want to wash your hands, please use the outdoors sink. Unfortunately there are no paper towels available at the outdoors sink.
The showers are not to be used.
- All members are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer and disposable gloves.
- If any public surfaces, not your own boat, have been touched with your (gloved)hands to use surface disinfectant with a cloth to wipe the surface down. Disinfectant and cloths available in clubhouse and on the hard.
- When your hands have been in contact with any public surface to use hand sanitizer available on the hard and in the clubhouse.
- Dogs will be allowed at the club, but shall be kept on the leash at all times. I note that we’re using rat bait around the old clubhouse.
- All members not to wear gloves unless for sailing purposes or see C.1. It makes it easier to remember to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer.
- To use hand sanitizer every time you enter or leave the hard.
- All boats need to have masthead flotation to enable safer assistance in case of capsizing.
- Members of Rotherham Model Yacht Club(RMYC) to only use the north-western part of the hard(near the old slipway).
First person to arrive at the club.
- Park car in front of gate to compound and put disposable gloves on.
- Open compound gate, clubhouse door, both gates to hard and unlock all 3 doors of old clubhouse. Keep all gates and doors open, if necessary by using wedges/tyres etc.
- Remove gloves and park car in compound.
Changes to OOD duties.
- Rescue boat to remain on the lake or singlehandedly launched from launching trolley/trailer. (Rain)water can be removed by removing (temporarily!) the bung at the back of the boat whilst driving the rescue boat.
- Only 1 OOD to use the rescue boat and fill petrol tank on any given day, unless assistance is needed for rescue purposes.
3 Races can be organised, but without signing in or out., this rule can be amended once we feel more confident about keeping transmission of virus to an absolute minimum/zero.
- Race course to be kept as simple as possible to avoid members having to write down the course to follow..
- At end of sailing the petrol tank to be put in storage near the starter hut and rescue boat to be moored in front of the starter hut or only the OOD to pull safety boat on trolley and trolley to be pulled out by car/lawnmower with tow bar. All gates to be closed and all doors to be locked whilst wearing disposable gloves.
General safety.
- No members to visit the club apart from on Wednesdays and Sundays. This is to avoid surface contamination and to avoid the need to regularly clean all the surfaces in and outside the club house.
- If contact between members has occurred by accident or necessity those members to exchange mobile phone numbers so that the necessary person(s) can be contacted if said member(s) develop symptoms of Covid-19.
- Anyone showing signs or been diagnosed with Covid19 MUST inform the club, especially if this happens after visiting the club to advise others who may have had contact with them and stay away.
4. The club will allow people at moderate risk (clinically vulnerable) to come to the club, this includes the over seventies, however the club does advise the people in this category to consider their individual risk which can be discussed with the Covid safety officer.
The club will allow people at high risk (clinically extremely vulnerable) to visit the club, but only after discussion with the Covid safety officer.
For details about both categories see: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/people-at-higher-risk-from-coronavirus/whos-at-higher-risk-from-coronavirus/
Sailing takes place on Wednesday 5.30pm - 8.30pm and Saturday 12pm - 7pm. Sunday is usually a racing day, but other sailing also takes place. The club is an RYA accredited training centre, running training courses and is a small friendly, club where individuals or families can join. Sailing is not necessarily expensive. You will be surprised at how competitive the membership fees are. There are club sailing boats, which can be used, and there are reasonably priced second-hand boats on the market.
