Our services are still available, and we are working with partners and other organisations to support communities across the UK. Based on Government advice, we have made some changes to ensure we continue to support and protect our community as best we can. We understand that you may need our help now more than ever, and our support services are still operating with some changes. Local support is available, and there are still organisations and communities across the UK ready to lend a helping hand. However, to best protect our beneficiaries and staff, we have closed our Pop-in centres for now. For advice and support nearby, contact us on Freephone 0808 802 8080 or email info@britishlegion.org.uk We are still able to provide support and advice for any challenges you may be facing. Financial and employment support is still ongoing, as we understand your circumstances may have changed recently. Your physical and mental wellbeing is incredibly important, and if you have a specific need right now contact us on freephone 0808 802 8080 or email info@britishlegion.org.uk to discuss your situation. Our Admiral Nurses service helps you care for members of your household who may be struggling with dementia. We have stopped home visits for now but can provide advice over the phone. Freephone 0808 802 8080 or email ANsupport@britishlegion.org.uk for help looking after a loved one with dementia. Whatever kind of support you may need, the Veterans’ Gateway local support tool can show you organisations close by that are ready to help. During the COVID-19 outbreak our highest priority is the safety and well-being of our elderly and vulnerable veterans. More than ever the Legion needs skilled staff to help us care for those living in our care homes. So we can keep delivering the care they deserve, we need more staff to cover for sickness and absence. We are calling on nurses, care assistants, general assistants, catering staff, administrators and maintenance staff, who are available for work now. We’ve got full and part time roles at our six UK care homes in Taunton, Cromer, Broadstairs, Bexhill-on-Sea, Southam and Ripon. The Legion is also looking to recruit an army of casual staff members able to provide temporary support to the homes during this crisis. If you can help us by filling any of the roles in one of our homes, or know someone who can, please contact the Legion as soon as possible on 0808 802 8080 or LegionNeedsYou@britishlegion.org.uk. The RBL Helpline remains fully operational, so if you or someone you know in the Armed Forces community needs our support, please continue to contact us on 0808 802 8080 (8am to 8pm, 7 days a week). You can also email us at info@britishlegion.org.uk. As of Thursday 19 March, our 15 Pop In Centres on high streets around the UK will be closed until it is safe to reopen them. Please note that as our offices are closed, we're currently unable to open any post. If you'd like to get in touch please contact us by email at info@britishlegion.org.uk, or by calling 0808 802 8080. If your concern is Covid-19 related we would encourage you to contact NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk/covid-19 as they will be best placed to support you. All of our fundraising events until the end of August have sadly been postponed. We are in the process of reviewing events that are due to take place in the Autumn and will be contacting all participants over the coming weeks to discuss options. If you’re currently fundraising for the Legion, please contact our supporter care line on 0333 011 4500 for assistance with fundraising or donations. Our Membership Annual Conference will not be taking place in its current form, however we are exploring other options. We will keep our members informed of our plans around this. In the meantime, please call 0800 307 7773 for help with Membership queries. We’re encouraging all communities across the UK to join forces to ensure help and care is available for anyone who may be experiencing hardship, loneliness or isolation. Please do get in touch if you need us during this challenging time, and we stand ready to support you. We have now published our Covid-19 management risk assessments for different areas of the Legion. You can download the different risk assessments below. Our response to the Covid-19 outbreak

Coronavirus: how we are supporting participants during the pandemic
Since March 2020 the Coronavirus pandemic has given rise to an unprecedented situation, affecting the lives of us all and resulting in the closure of key services and support agencies. During this time the health, safety and wellbeing of Opportunity and Change participants remains our priority, and the partnership has been working tirelessly to ensure that participants remain supported.
We are continuing to accept new referrals; offering a remote induction to the project and telephone/online support until we are in a position to fully assess participant eligibility and resume face-to-face contact.
The project is responding to the crisis in the following ways:
All face-to-face appointments have been replaced with telephone and online support (e.g. Zoom, WhatsApp, email, etc.)
Frequency of contact has increased; Navigators are checking-in more often to help reduce feelings of isolation
Up to date resources are being shared, including: mental health tools, online training courses and financial support
Participants accessing counselling services have been able to continue to do so via phone or using a virtual meeting platform
Participants who are missing their weekly Skills Plus for Change sessions are being offered alternative support online
Navigator support has adapted to meet the practical needs of participants; ensuring they have access to food parcels, toiletries, utilities and delivering prescriptions where necessary
What is Opportunity and Change?
Opportunity and Change is a support programme for people with multiple and complex needs throughout Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Our programme is being delivered by local organisations working together, with a range of experience of working with people with multiple and complex needs.
We aim to support people achieve stability and provide access to mainstream services. We work with individuals to create a tailored package of support that will assist with a range of needs including accommodation, mental healthcare and education.
We are part of the national Building Better Opportunities programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund and the European Union through its European Social Fund. It is being managed by Framework, a charity and housing association dedicated to helping homeless people, preventing homelessness, and promoting opportunities for vulnerable and excluded people.
