Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.
Stay at home if you have either:
- a high temperature - you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- a new, continuous cough. This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. This means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.

Ring our main telephone line on 01777 713330 to book an appointment. Say immediately if your call is an emergency.Your condition may be assessed by a triage Doctor, who will then either provide you with advice or give you an appointment to see a doctor, nurse or other health professional.
If your condition is non urgent, you can expect to see a GP within two to seven working days, though you may have to wait longer if you want to see a particular G.P.
The nurses based in our practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions.
Telephone Consultations
We can also provide you with a telephone consultation, if this is more appropriate, e.g. for advice, test results or other query. Please request a telephone appointment when speaking to the receptionist.
If you need to speak to a doctor urgently, we will either put you through as soon as we can or take your telephone number and the doctor will ring you back when possible.
Chaperone
If the doctor or nurse considers it appropriate, you will be offered the presence of a chaperone during your consultation, or you may request one.
Alternatively, you may prefer to bring a friend or relative with you to your appointment.
OUT OF HOURS
If you or your family need urgent medical care when the surgery is closed, please phone the usual daytime surgery number (01777 713330) and your call will be re-directed to the out-of hours service. Alternatively call the Out of Hours Service on 111. Your needs will be assessed and you will either be given advice or arrangements will be made for you to be seen by a healthcare professional.
This service provides Emergency Cover Only and is for urgent problems that cannot wait till the following morning when normal surgery resumes.

Bassetlaw Hospital Discharge Scheme operates in Bassetlaw district for anyone aged 50 or over on hospital discharge and helps them to quickly regain their independence and confidence.
The patients will be visited on the ward before discharge and matched with a volunteer. Services offered include:
- Preparing the home for return
- Assisting with visits to outpatients' appointments, shopping, collecting prescriptions and social activities
- Signposting to other service benefit checks, home safety, community transport and other community services.
All volunteers are trained and DBS checked, and will provide support for six to eight weeks.

Electronic Prescription Service
This GP offers the Electronic Prescription Service, which allows you to choose or "nominate" a pharmacy to get your medicines or appliances from. Your GP then sends your prescription electronically to the place you nominated. this means:
- If you collect your repeat prescriptions from your GP you will not have to visit your GP practice to pick up your paper prescription, saving time.
- You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop.
- You may not have to wait as long as your repeat prescriptions could be prepared before you arrive.

COVID-19 has drastically impacted the services we offer and how we work with service users.
The casework team spoke to 301 people living with HIV positive in under 72 hours. They were all extremely anxious about having to self-isolate and how they were going to earn a living.
Since the lockdown, NAZ has been actively supporting the immediate needs of our clients: providing food, referrals and advice on welfare and benefits.

What we do
Our work is situated in a sobering reality. BAME communities are disproportionately impacted by poor HIV, sexual and reproductive health compared to their white counterparts:

The highest population rates of STI diagnoses are among people of Black or mixed ethnicity, with Black Caribbeans having the highest diagnosis rates of many STIs of all ethnic groups. The majority of these cases are among persons living in areas of high deprivation. These high rates of STI diagnoses are most likely due to a combination of cultural, economic and behavioural factors.

This disproportionality is particularly pronounced for gonorrhoea1 which increased in diagnoses by 34% between 2017 and 2018 for people of Black Caribbean ethnicity.
-
In 2018, 52% of Black African heterosexual women were diagnosed at a late stage of HIV infection in 2018, compared to 43% overall.
-
Mothers from Black ethnicities are at nearly five times higher risk of dying in childbirth than white mothers.
At the heart of our work is a passion and drive to redress sexual health inequalities to enable all people from minority communities to enjoy positive sexual health and well-being.

IMPROVING THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF BASSETLAW RESIDENTS THROUGH SUPPORTED
ACCESS AND NAVIGATION INTO LOCAL SERVICES AND SUPPORT GROUPS
The Community Advisor is a specialist with a wealth of knowledge and experience about services across Bassetlaw, helping individuals to access non-medical support services from voluntary organisations and community groups.
Anyone over the age of 16 who is registered with a Bassetlaw GP can access this service.
You can ask at your GP Reception when the Community Advisor will be visiting your local surgery or contact us directly here at BCVS.
The Community Advisor will discuss with the individual how one of the many voluntary or community services may help them improve their health and wellbeing alongside any existing medical treatment.
The Community Advisor can help you to:
- Identify groups which may offer additional support to help you understand and manage your medical condition
- Access community social groups by giving you a named contact and specific group information
- Access benefits, debt and welfare advice
- Address loneliness and isolation issues by encouraging participation with local activity group
- Access information and advice on a wide range of services for the whole family
Your Community Advisor will be able to identify suitable support options and they will afford the time to find contact details of the leaders of groups and services to make the access as smooth as possible.
