Coronavirus (COVID-19)
The NHS and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.
Stay at home if you have either:
- a high temperature - you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
- a new, continuous cough. This means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
- loss or change to your sense of smell or taste. This means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal.
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital
Use the 111 online coronavirus service to find out what to do
Read the NHS advice about staying home including how long to isolate for.
Use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:
- You feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
- Your condition gets worse
- Your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
Only call 111 if you cannot get help online.
For further information on: High risk groups, How to avoid catching and spreading coronavirus and Pregnancy advice. Go to: nhs.uk/coronavirus.
For information on social distancing, go to: gov.uk/guidance-on-social-distancing
Ring our main telephone line on 01777 713330 to book an appointment. Say immediately if your call is an emergency.Your condition may be assessed by a triage Doctor, who will then either provide you with advice or give you an appointment to see a doctor, nurse or other health professional.
If your condition is non urgent, you can expect to see a GP within two to seven working days, though you may have to wait longer if you want to see a particular G.P.
The nurses based in our practice treat patients for a wide range of common conditions.
Telephone Consultations
We can also provide you with a telephone consultation, if this is more appropriate, e.g. for advice, test results or other query. Please request a telephone appointment when speaking to the receptionist.
If you need to speak to a doctor urgently, we will either put you through as soon as we can or take your telephone number and the doctor will ring you back when possible.
Chaperone
If the doctor or nurse considers it appropriate, you will be offered the presence of a chaperone during your consultation, or you may request one.
Alternatively, you may prefer to bring a friend or relative with you to your appointment.
OUT OF HOURS
If you or your family need urgent medical care when the surgery is closed, please phone the usual daytime surgery number (01777 713330) and your call will be re-directed to the out-of hours service. Alternatively call the Out of Hours Service on 111. Your needs will be assessed and you will either be given advice or arrangements will be made for you to be seen by a healthcare professional.
This service provides Emergency Cover Only and is for urgent problems that cannot wait till the following morning when normal surgery resumes.
CANCELLATIONS
Please inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to attend for your appointment so that we can allocate your appointment to another patient.

Aurora services set to relocate to enable building work to commence
02 October 2020
Aurora Wellbeing in Worksop has this week relocated a number of vital services in preparation for the start of building works and the transformation of the Old Library Building on Memorial Avenue.
Aurora Wellbeing, a local charity that supports people in Bassetlaw affected by cancer and long term health conditions was in 2019 awarded £1.56M from the National Heritage Lottery Fund (NHLF), boosted to £2M with support from key stakeholders, to transform the Old Library Building where the Aurora charity is based.
Throughout the duration of the building works, Aurora will continue to deliver services to local people to ensure people in Bassetlaw diagnosed with cancer receive vital help and support, and until services can return to the centre in 2021.
The Aurora Charity Shop and Tea Rooms will relocate to the former Dukeries Tea Rooms building on Bridge Street in Worksop in October 2020, for a period of approximately six months and will open daily from Monday – Saturday, 10 am – 3 pm.
Aurora beauty therapy services will continue to deliver services from Sparkles Beauty, Kilton Road, Worksop and customers are asked to call 0750 3612084 during this period to book appointments.
Aurora Wellbeing Practitioners will continue to provide health needs assessments and support across the Bassetlaw area (working remotely) to help support people and their families with a cancer diagnosis, and to offer emotional support, counselling and workshops.
Aurora exercise classes, including Yoga, Pilates, and Tai Chi, will continue either online via Zoom or at locations across the locality.
Our support lines are open Monday - Friday (9 am-5 pm). Please call us on 01909 470985 or email admin@aurorawellbeing.org.uk

Right now, it is their priority to stay in touch with clients, volunteers and many friends of the charity. They are continuing to offer support and a friendly listening ear to anyone who may be struggling with feelings of anxiety, loneliness or depression and encourage you to chat about your concerns. Contact Aurora via telephone, Monday to Friday from 10.00am to 4.00pm, on 01909 470985.

COVID19 update 24th August 2020 -
In light of the recent Government recommendations that the UK population should wherever possible avoid social contact and that all non-essential travel and meetings are avoided, we have made the decision to suspend all Compassionate Friends group support meetings and face to face support due to the rise in the spread of coronavirus. This is not a decision we have taken lightly, but rather it is to protect the health of our members and the wider community.
We very aware that our support groups are a place where you can safely come and talk about your child and share any thoughts and feelings around your bereavement; so we appreciate that many of you will find it difficult that this support is not available for the time being.
Please do remember that you can call the TCF Helpline any day of the week if you would like to speak with another bereaved parent who is there to listen on 0345 123 2304 (10 am – 4 pm, 7 -10 pm). If the Helpline is busy, please clearly leave your name, number and a short message and one of our team will get back to you as soon as they can (please note, this may not be the same day). You can also email the helpline for support at helpline@tcf.org.uk.
Please do also consider joining one of our private Facebook Groups or online Forum for support and to talk with other bereaved parents and siblings. Details are here
Our postal library will still be operating but will offer a more limited service during this time. For more information contact Mary at library@tcf.org.uk.
We are reviewing all events and gatherings planned for the next few months and will be contacting those who have booked onto our future supportive weekends over the coming days and weeks.
The group aims to support parents who have lost a child of any age. The supporters themselves are bereaved parents.
Meetings are held every 6 weeks in members homes.

If you need help in a mental health crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic outside office hours please contact our crisis team: Help in a crisis
CAMHS stands for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. It’s the part of the NHS which helps children and young people who have problems with their thoughts or feelings. We can help people until they are 18. If someone like a teacher or your doctor is worried about you, they can write to CAMHS to see if we can help you. This is called making a referral. The person who is going to write to us has to get your permission first. As long as we think you are able to decide, it's up to you whether or not we let your parents know.
If you are having trouble with your thoughts or feelings talk to your parents or carers, or an adult you trust. There is a useful website called Health for Teens that you may find useful: http://www.healthforteens.co.uk/
Most children who get help from CAMHS see one of our community teams. This normally means you will come to see us for weekly appointments at one of our bases, at a health centre or at your school. We have lots of people working for us who can help you in different ways. These include:
-
family therapists – who talk through problems with you and your family
-
CAMHS social workers – who support children and families through difficult times
-
family support workers – who can give advice to your parents or carers
-
mental health practitioners – who support young people and their families to bring about positive change
-
psychologists – experts in how people think and act
-
psychiatrists – doctors who work on thoughts and feelings
-
art psychotherapists – who can help you by using art and music
For more information visit our website: http://bit.ly/2sQl6GD
Information for parents and carers can be found at: http://bit.ly/2sgBCkS
As well as our community teams, we have some teams which work on other difficulties. These include:
- Problems with eating
- Problems with drugs or alcohol
- Psychosis – when someone hears or sees things which aren’t there
- Intellectual disability – when someone finds it difficult to communicate or understand things

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing.
Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life, the impact of trauma, medical illness or loss, like the death of a loved one, and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety. There are several different types of psychotherapy and some types may work better with certain problems or issue. Psychotherapy may be used in combination with medication or other therapies.
Psychotherapy can be short-term(a few sessions), dealing with immediate issues, or long-term (months or years), dealing with longstanding and complex issues. The goals of treatment and arrangements for how often and how long to meet are planned jointly by the patient and therapist.
Access to Service
Our service is available across the county using digital platforms and telephone. Face to face sessions are available in Mansfield and Worksop. Daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available to suit your needs.
We can work with clients aged 18 and over through self-referral, a GP referral or through other agencies that support you.
Assessment
In a telephone conversation, our coordinator will ask you about your personal circumstances and what is causing you concern. This will help determine if our service is right for you.
At the assessment, you will be asked about your current situation, past experiences, a brief medical history and how you hope to benefit from counselling. If we cannot provide the correct help for you at this time we will do our best to find alternative support.
After the assessment, you will be placed on our waiting list. If you would like any further information about our Counselling Service please contact our main office on 0800 470 0203 and speak to our team for more information.
Digital Support
New Digital Services
Peer support services have been a part of Nottinghamshire Mind for many years now and provide a platform for individuals to share experiences and build support networks, this has proven to improve emotional health, wellbeing and a sense of belonging for both those who deliver and receive support.
Through the current pandemic we’ve encouraged members old and new to take part in our ever growing platform or digital services, empowering some to try something new for the very first time.
At present we offer app based peer support sessions daily Monday to Thursday.
You’ll have the opportunity to feel part of a community, share experiences, feelings and thoughts and build friendships, all of which will promote and support you to maintain positive wellbeing.
Our use of the GroupMe app allows our recovery coaches to promote ideas and approaches that may be helpful to you, such as relaxation tips, exercises, talking therapies and near crisis planning. We also use these session to provide creativity and fun with our Quiz – keeping the brain active , Photography sessions – sharing snaps to brighten your day ….. and much more.
Our Information sessions can also take place digitally on a 1-1 basis should you require a little more support, sessions take place over zoom and allow you the chance to see and communicate with one of our recovery coaches.
Sessions are 30 minute and you don’t need to have your camera switched on but you’ll be able to see our recovery coach, we feel this helps build a better relationship for the client.
If you are interested in any of the services above please contact one of our recovery coaches.

The Mix
--
Free confidential support for young people under 25 via online, social media and mobile
What does post-lockdown mean?
The government has officially eased lockdown rules, meaning as things stand right now, you’re allowed to meet up with more friends and family from different households, visit pubs and restaurants and even have your hair cut!
You still have to follow some social distancing restrictions and rules are slightly different depending on where in the UK you live.
For a full summary, see this BBC article.
Is the easing of lockdown a good thing?
For some people, the end of lockdown might feel like a huge relief. You can go out again! You can see your mates and you can do all the things you’ve been missing so much over the past few months.
But this isn’t the way everyone feels, and many of us might not feel at all ready to go back to “normality.”
- Though you may want to see your friends, the thought of putting yourself or others at risk of getting ill can be scary.
- You might be dealing with loss.
- You might be struggling with your mental or physical health.
- You might not want things to change.
How do I cope with all this change and uncertainty?
Uncertainty can be uncomfortable. When the future is hard to predict it can make you feel like things are out of your control, which can be scary.
Anxiety and fear are reasonable and natural responses to big changes.
If you feel this way there’s nothing wrong with you and there’s no need to feel embarrassed.
- Try talking to someone you trust about the way you’re feeling.
- Sticking to a routine can help to give you a sense of control, even if it’s something small like reading before bed or going for a walk at the same time every day.
- Try writing a list of all the things you can control.
- Get creative! Try singing, dancing, playing music or painting to express how you’re feeling.
What if I don’t feel comfortable going out yet?
Know that you don’t need to do anything you’re not comfortable with.
- Take things at your own pace.
- Communicate with your friends and family about how the changes are making you feel.
- If it makes you feel safer, stick to meeting people in the park in smaller groups.
- If you want to wear a mask when you see people then that’s fine too.
What if I’m shielding?
For those who are shielding (often people with long-term health conditions), the easing of restrictions won’t apply in the same way.
If you or someone in your family is shielding then it can be really stressful to see life returning to normal. It can also give you massive FOMO!
If you’re shielding or you’re worried about someone who is, know that you’re not alone.
Make sure you’re chatting to friends and family as much as you can. You can also chat things through with one of our team.
It might help to switch off from social media sometimes to avoid drawing comparisons.
Things are going back to normal, but I’m dealing with loss
Some people will have lost loved ones during the pandemic. It can be difficult to see normality returning when you’re dealing with grief and loss.
You may not have been able to see a loved one before they passed away. Restrictions may have meant that you couldn’t go to their funeral. This can make things feel twice as hard.
Grieving is one of the hardest things we go through, and everyone reacts differently. It’s ok if you’re struggling and it’s nothing to feel guilty about. But the fact that restrictions are easing also means that you can now see the people in your life that can support you through this time. Staying in touch with your friends and family can make a huge difference.
You might find our article on coping with grief helpful. Take a look at Barnardo’s article on coping with loss.
You could also sign up for bereavement counselling. You can get free counselling with The Mix here.
But, I liked some bits of lockdown!
Did you actually find lockdown nice and peaceful? Some people enjoyed the chance to slow things down and reconnect with the things they love doing.
You might also feel anxious about returning to school, university or to normal working life. But you’re not the only person who’ll be feeling this way.
- Make a list of all the things you enjoyed about lockdown, so you know which habits you want to keep.
- Talk to your employer or your teachers about what you need to feel comfortable going back to a more normal routine.
- Take things slowly; no one is forcing you to rush back to a faster pace of life.
Stay connected
No matter how you’re feeling about a post-lockdown world, it’s important to remember that we’re all going through this together, and there’s no perfect way of coping.
The key thing is to stay connected to those around you and make sure you feel supported and heard.
You might find these articles by Mind and the Mental Health Foundation helpful.
Speak to our team for free and confidential support on anything and everything that’s on your mind.

COVID19 Update 13th August 2020 - Muddy Fork, Retford’s ‘gardening for wellbeing’ project based at the Idle Valley Nature Reserve, is of course currently unable to provide a service. Groups are suspended and the worker furloughed. The garden, however, is being maintained by volunteers in the expectation that work will resume in due course and will be needed more than ever.
Muddy Fork participants whose mental health has been adversely affected by lockdown conditions will be glad to return, get to work, and meet up with others. New referrals can be expected given the downturn in wellbeing felt by many. The project also hopes that its corporate wellbeing days will be increasingly used by businesses whose employees have appreciated access to nature during the lockdown period. All this however is dependent on the project’s financial survival. Fundraising possibilities are currently limited: many grant-giving bodies are not accepting applications, and the small donations from groups, clubs and individuals which have helped sustain the project have largely dried up.
Muddy Fork trustees are monitoring developments closely and providing updates on their website, www.muddyfork.org. They will be pleased to hear from supporters, donors and referrers, though referrals cannot actually be progressed at the moment. To get in touch, contact trustee@muddyfork.org.
Mental health issues don't just disappear because there's a pandemic, indeed they can be magnified.
Muddy Fork provides a much needed lifeline to some of our participants and whilst COVID has meant our sessions have had to be suspended, we are still providing support (where possible) to our partcipants. So we need all the help we can get at the moment. Heather is kindly fundraising for Muddy Fork by doing a massive challenge. For twenty-five days, Heather's doing 25 press-ups, every day!
Please follow the link to read more about why Heather's doing the challenge, and then donate and share!
https://www.totalgiving.co.uk/mypage/heatherdavidson
We understand that this is an exceptionally trying time: the threat is real, the fear is real, isolation is now real; Muddy Fork will do its best to support existing participants (this may prove impossible, but we will try!).
New referrals will still be accepted, but not progressed for the time being.
Please take care and look after yourselves and your loved ones.

Bereavement
The Tamba Bereavement Support Group (BSG) exists to support all parents and carers of multiples who have experienced loss whether it was during pregnancy, at birth or at any point afterwards. We are so sorry for your loss and hope that by making contact with the BSG you will find some comfort.
The group was established in 1982 in response to requests from parents who had lost a twin. Dr Elizabeth Bryan, a founder member of the Twins and Multiples Births Association (TAMBA), recognised the special needs of such families and started it off by producing the first leaflet of its kind on this subject. As more people contacted the group it became clear that families faced with the loss of both twins had yet another set of problems, as did parents who had suffered a cot death.
Tamba BSG offers parent to parent support via our befriending service and via our facebook bereavement support group
If you would like a hardcopy of the booklet, or like to have further support from the group, please email the Support Services team.
Tamba now have a separate electronic booklet for parents who have suffered a loss from TTTS, if you would like a copy of this booklet please send us an email.

When you are going through a difficult time, it can be very easy to keep your worries to yourself and believe that you are the only one experiencing such painful feelings. While we all have our own ways of coping, information and support can make a huge difference.
Counselling Directory was set up by a team who know how difficult it can be to find the support and information you need. Being a team who between us have experienced various mental health issues, we know how it feels to be overwhelmed, isolated and somewhat lost.
Through our own experiences, we have learnt how important having relevant information is and how the right support can help transform lives.
Our journey inspired us to share what we have learnt along the way with others. Our team is passionate about counselling and we want to promote the huge benefits talking therapy can have. We know how important it is to find the right counsellor for you and we are dedicated to making that process as simple as possible.

Supporting someone during Covid-19
Checking in on your family, friends and colleagues is always important. But as the coronavirus pandemic continues, this is more important than ever.
Lots of us have felt worried about the coronavirus pandemic, and everyone will feel differently about the changes to lockdown restrictions.
If someone’s feeling anxious or worried, you don’t need to be an expert on mental health to support them. Think about using our three top tips:
1) Check in
If someone doesn’t feel ready to meet face-to-face, picking up the phone, having a video call, starting a group chat or messaging someone on social media lets them know you are there to talk and ready to listen.
2) Listen and reflect
Whether you have a mental health problem or not, this will be a challenging time for our mental health and wellbeing. If someone opens up to you, remember that you don't need to fix things or offer advice. Often just listening, and showing you take them seriously, can help someone to manage.
3) Ask questions
Ask how people are managing, and ask again if you're worried they aren't sharing the full picture. Asking again, with interest, can help someone to open up and explore what they're feeling.
If you are in need of mental health advice and information in relation to Covid-19, our partners Mind and Rethink Mental Illness have a number of resources at the bottom of our web page.
General enquiries
The Time to Change team is currently working from home in line with Government advice on Covid-19. This means we are unable to respond to calls, voicemails or post. To get in touch, please email our team.
Email: info@time-to-change.org.uk
Time to Change is a growing social movement working to change the way we all think and act about mental health problems. We've already reached millions of people and begun to improve attitudes and behaviour.
Despite the progress we’ve made, we know that many people still don’t consider mental health relevant to them. They don’t believe mental health problems are likely to affect them or people they know.
But the reality is that mental health can affect anyone. Statistically, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year. That’s why our work is so important. No one should have to fear being treated differently because of a mental health problem.
If you're looking for individual advice, information or support for you or someone else, unfortunately Time to Change can't provide that but there are lots of people who can - visit our Mental health help and support services page for a list of numbers to call.

PTSDUK - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder UK
PTSD UK exisits to share information and raise awareness of PTSD to help everyone who is experiencing it or touched by it.
Evidence suggests that around 70% of people who suffer with PTSD in the UK do not receive any professional help at all, and many of those who are aware they have it are not getting the help and support they need.
Our charity aims to raise awareness of PTSD in three main areas – it’s causes, symptoms and the treatments available. These 3 areas are of vital importance to those suffering with the condition.
Causes: Many people have pre-conceived ideas of PTSD, and what can cause it. There is a widespread misunderstanding that PTSD only affect veterans, or those in the armed forces (likely due to it’s previous name of shell-shock) but it can infact affect anyone, of any age. It’s vital that people are aware if they (or a friend or family member) have suffered a trauma, they should be mindful of trauma symptoms, and the possibility of PTSD.
Symptoms: There are two areas in which knowing the symptoms of PTSD are useful. The first is that people may recognize the symptoms in themselves (or a friend or family member) and reach out for help – starting their recovery process. The other is those who are suffering with PTSD, can understand that what they’re thinking or feeling, or how their body is reacting, is ‘normal’ for someone with PTSD – this can be of huge comfort knowing that once the PTSD is resolved, those symptoms will be too. Some symptoms of PTSD feel totally unconnected to the original trauma or the condition itself, so it’s really important people can recognize just how PTSD can affect them.
Treatments: PTSD is a misunderstood condition in many ways – and no more so than the treatments available. As PTSD arises from a specific trauma (or a number of traumas or sustained traumas) it means that the issues and symptoms can be resolved, and effectively treated. There are a variety of therapies and activities than can help ease PTSD symptoms, some immediate, and some longer term, but the current NICE guidelines recommend EMDR and CBT as the main options for the treatment of PTSD.
In addition to those suffering (and those around them), it’s vital that healthcare professionals are aware of all of these elements to look out for in their patients to avoid misdiagnosis, incorrect treatments and lack of the best resources for their patients.
